In 1958 it was decided to create a museum, where they would preserve and study the monuments of folk culture. Practical implementation of this decision was not an easy task. The museum was formed all the 70s and 80s. From Gorodetsky, Semenovsky, Koverninsky, Kstovskiy districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region, there were brought huts that were carefully assembled "on a log" in a new place. So there was a museum-reserve "Shchelokovo farm".
