Nizhnevolzhskaya embankment is one of the best walking areas in Nizhny Novgorod. This three-kilometer promenade runs along the Volga bank and includes a number of tourist attractions: the steamboat-shaped river station, the Rukavishnikov`s Bank that resembles a fairytale medieval palace, Zachatievskaya Tower of Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, the monument to Peter the Great, the Hero boat monument, the Chkalov`s Staircase and a contemporary city symbol Deer Statue by a famous Hungarian sculptor G. History
Nizhnevolzhskaya embankment promenade was designed in the 1830s` by architects Efimov and Gotman. For a number of years over 2,000 people worked on this area improvement. To secure the backfill soil and protect the ground from spring waters the coast was cobblestoned. In 1838, the works on the embankment were successfully completed and for the first time in history of Nizhny Novgorod transport could pass along the urban riverside area.
Today, Nizhnevolzhskaya Embankment is a landscaped area, excellent choice for hiking and cycling.
