Nizhny Novgorod cableway

Description History

The cableway connecting Nizhny Novgorod with the town of Bor on the other bank of the Volga is the biggest in height and the longest in Europe passage above the water surface.

For Nizhny Novgorod this is not only a means of transportation, but a wonderful attraction, the ride in the air 3.6 km above the Volga is a pleasant experience and almost not scary.

The only point to remember, these transparent cable cars are not heated, therefore in the cold season it is important to wear proper warm clothes.

In 1958 it was decided to create a designated museum space to preserve and study the heritage of folk culture, however, the performance of this project appeared to be rather challenging. The museum collection was formed all through the 1970s` and 1980s`. From the districts of Gorodets, Semyonov, Kovernino, Kstovo of Nizhny Novgorod region they brought here various huts that were carefully assembled "log on a log" in this new place to make up Shelokovsky Khutor open-air museum.
